Abstract

The Genista radiata populations at the castle ruin of Tschanüff (Community of Ramosch, Lower Engadine, GR). The population of Genista radiata (L.) Scop. is located in the background of the castle of Tschanüff near Ramosch. It is most probably the northernmost population of this specimen, which is primarily distributed in the Southern Alps and Dinarides. In the present paper, we applied the relevé method of Braun-Blanquet for vegetation community assessment and we analysed the plant composition ecologically and sociologically. Most of the plants prefer alkaline and skeletal soils. They are mainly indicators of dryness and light, occurring chiefly in regions with relatively continental climate. The populations of Tschanüff can be thus assigned to the inner Alpine Astragalo-Brometum Br.-Bl. 49, leading to a new subassociation called „Astragalo-Brometum genistetosum subass. nova”. In terms of the colonisation of G. radiata on this place, both a natural immigration during the Middle to Late Holocene and a younger anthropogenic cultivation were hypothesised and discussed.
