Abstract
True importance and function of traditional preservation of nature and landscape are critically appraised. Reasons for their present uneffectiveness are indicated. An analysis along the lines of historical and cultural development shows how nature and landscape were differently appreciated. Modern principles of protecting nature and landscape as well as ways to achieve success are exposed.
