Abstract
Some plants of Luzula luzuloides ssp. cuprina collected from a locality on the Belchen mountain (South Black Forest) in 1360 m altitude and cultivated in 280 m altitude near Freiburg i. Br. exhibit some continuous characters as red-blotted perigon-leaves and a phenology differing from the typical Luzula luzuloides. On the other hand, other criteria recorded in many floras such as densely contracted inflorescences turned out to be pure modifications. Even the dark brown colouring of the mature seeds is very resembling in both taxa. The number of chromosomes of a red-flowering Luzula luzuloides cultivated in low site has been determined as 2n = 12. The stirps spread in highmontane-subalpine zone is allied, in general, to open grass-heaths belonging to the Nardion or Calamagrostion .
