The Basel Institute on Governance Working Paper series (ISSN: 2624-9650) publishes original research, analysis and thinking on corruption, asset recovery, anti-money laundering, business integrity, ethics and compliance, anti-corruption Collective Action, public governance, environmental crime and related fields.
The series is aimed at policymakers, practitioners and researchers. Working Papers often draw on the Basel Institute’s research and practical experience across different countries and contexts, with the aim of contributing both to scholarly knowledge and to improvements in policy and practice.
All Working Papers are published Diamond Open Access. There are no fees for authors or readers. Papers are available immediately and can be read and downloaded without registration, subscription or any requirement for readers to provide personal data.
Working Papers are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
Funding for individual research projects is disclosed in the description of the relevant Working Paper.
All Working Papers follow the Basel Institute’s publication and quality-assurance process.
Before drafting begins, authors prepare a concept note covering the purpose and intended impact of the paper, target audience, research questions, methodology, risks and proposed peer review. This is reviewed with the relevant line manager and the Communications and Publishing team.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, sourcing and research integrity of their work, with substantive oversight and final content approval from the relevant line manager. The Communications and Publishing team provides professional copy-editing and final proofreading.
Peer review is mandatory and is conducted by an internal or external subject-matter expert.
Copyright arrangements depend on the author’s relationship with the Basel Institute. For Working Papers authored by Basel Institute staff, copyright is held by the Basel Institute on Governance in accordance with their employment terms. External authors retain copyright in their work.
