The Basel Institute on Governance Policy Brief series (ISSN 2624-9669) translates research and practical experience into concise, policy-focused guidance on corruption, asset recovery, anti-money laundering, business integrity, public governance, environmental crime and related fields.
Policy Briefs are aimed primarily at policymakers and practitioners. They draw out the implications of research, case experience and emerging practice, with a particular focus on practical recommendations and options for action.
All Policy Briefs are published Diamond Open Access. There are no fees for authors or readers. Policy Briefs are available immediately and can be read and downloaded without registration, subscription or any requirement for readers to provide personal data.
Policy Briefs are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
Funding for individual research projects is disclosed in the description of the relevant Policy Brief.
All Policy Briefs follow the Basel Institute’s publication and quality-assurance process.
Before drafting begins, authors prepare a concept note covering the purpose and intended impact of the publication, target audience, key questions, methodology where relevant, risks and proposed peer review. This is reviewed with the relevant line manager and the Communications and Publishing team.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, sourcing and integrity of their work, with substantive oversight and final content approval from the relevant line manager. The Communications and Publishing team provides professional copy-editing and final proofreading.
Peer review is mandatory and is conducted by an internal or external subject-matter expert.
Copyright arrangements depend on the author’s relationship with the Basel Institute. For Policy Briefs authored by Basel Institute staff, copyright is held by the Basel Institute on Governance in accordance with their employment terms. External authors retain copyright in their work.
